Professor emeritus of psychiatry at the University of Texas Medical Branch of Galveston. A specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry, Dr. Adams was the author of seven books on psychiatry and numerous articles, book chapters, and book reviews in his field. He earned a master's degree in sociology at Columbia before attending P&S. He also taught on the faculties of the University of Florida and the University of Tennessee. Outside of medicine, Dr. Adams had been active in the peace movement, with the Society of Friends and the American Civil Liberties Union.
