Organization
Typescript and published articles and correspondence documenting Schullinger’s work in the clinical testing of penicillin while serving at U.S. Army General Hospital No. 2 based near Oxford, England in 1942-1944.
Included are a typescript of an article, apparently never published in full, entitled “Penicillin in the Treatment of Surgical Infections” dated May 1944; a reminiscence of his penicillin research, “Introductory Remarks,” probably written in 1957, which also discusses his interactions with Sir Howard and Lady Florey; an article, “Some Notes on Penicillin,” that was published in Guy’s Hospital Gazette (June 24 and July 8, 1944), along with the manuscript for it.
In addition, there is correspondence, 1954-1957, with William S. Middleton discussing the possible inclusion of some of this material in the history of the U.S. Army Medical Department in the Second World War.
