Gynecological casebooks of New York City physician George M. Tuttle dating from May 1895 to May 1909.
History and Biography
George Montgomery Tuttle was born Oct. 2, 1856 in Rochester, N.Y., the son of the Rev. James Harvey Tuttle, a Unitarian minister. He was graduated from Yale in 1877 and received his M.D. from the College of Physicians & Surgeons (P&S) in 1880. He was Professor of Gynecology at P&S from 1885 to 1903 and Attending Gynecologist at Roosevelt Hospital from 1888 until his death, Oct. 29, 1912.
Organization
The 23 volumes here date from May 1895 to May 1909 and deal solely with gynecological cases. Each case usually includes age, residence, marital status, childbearing and menstruation information, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and result. In addition, there are often letters from referring physicians and sketches of the visible symptoms. Most of the cases seem to have been referred to Tuttle from the patients' general practitioners. In 1895, Tuttle maintained his office at 49 West 30th St. in Manhattan.
