History and Biography
Physician and medical educator. Brown was born in Ireland and received his medical degree from the University of Edinburgh in 1779. He immigrated to the United States in 1783, settling in Baltimore where he became a leading physician. In 1807, Brown became one of the founders of the College of Medicine of Maryland (now the University of Maryland School of Medicine) and served as its first president, 1807-1812. He died August 24, 1822 at Baltimore.

There is also the metal container in which these items were originally housed and which is probably contemporaneous with Brown.
The tickets show that Brown took classes with Joseph Black (chemistry), William Cullen (practice of medicine), Andrew Duncan (medicine), James Gregory (institutes of medicine), Francis Home (materia medica), John Hope (botany), and Thomas Young (midwifery). There are also admission cards for the university library and the Royal Infirmary.
