Letters and documents relating to Seguin’s bequest of medical instruments and equipment as well as part of his library to the Pathological Laboratory of the College of Physicians and Surgeons. Included are four autograph letters from his second wife, Susan W. Seguin to T. Mitchell Prudden, director of the laboratory; a letter from Dr. Pearce Bailey to Prudden; a carbon copy of a letter from Prudden to Mrs. Seguin; an extract from E.C. Seguin’s will; and an inventory of the instruments and equipment bequeathed to P&S. Only a volume count of the books is included.
History and Biography
Edward Constant Seguin, neurologist, was born in Paris, in 1843, son of the noted psychiatrist, Edouard Seguin. The family emigrated to the U.S. about 1850 and E.C. Seguin received his medical degree from Columbia’s College of Physicians and Surgeons (P&S) in 1864. After further study in Paris, Seguin taught neurology at P&S, 1868-1887. He died in New York City, Feb. 19, 1898.
