Abstract:

Casebooks from Bellevue Hospital's First Division, which during this period was staffed by faculty from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. Five volumes are from the hospital's First Medical Division and concern patients with diseases of the digestive system, 1904-1910; rickets (children), 1904-1909; malarial fever, 1904-1907; lobar pneumonia (children), 1907-1909; and abnormalities and malformations (children), 1911-1916. Three volumes, 1866-1868, 1873-1875, 1876-1877, are also from the First Medical Division but are arranged chronologically, rather than by illness. One volume, 1898-1899, is from the First Surgical Division.

The volumes record patients' names, ages, professions, nationalities, addresses, personal and family medical histories, descriptions of complaints, diagnoses, and treatments. Medication and temperature charts are included.
