History and Biography
Flood received both his A.B. (1925) and M.D. (1928) from Columbia University. Apart from a fellowship year at Johns Hopkins, he spent his entire professional career at Columbia’s medical school, the College of Physicians & Surgeons (P&S), where he became a renowned gastroenterologist and rose to be a professor of clinical medicine. He was active in medical school alumni affairs, serving as both president and director of the P&S Alumni Association. Flood also served from 1967 to 1977 as editor of the alumni magazine, P&S Quarterly, predecessor to Columbia Medicine. He authored a two-volume history of the College of Physicians and Surgeons which was privately printed in 1989. He died January 27, 1995 at age 90.
Organization
A collection of his reprints, 1931-1981; a few newspaper clippings and pamphlets relating to the history of the College of Physicians and Surgeons (P&S) of Columbia University; a speech on the history of College which he gave to the P&S Alumni Association in 1992; and letters received from medical school alumni as editor of the alumni magazine. Correspondents include fellow medical school alumni Maurice Lenz, David Seegal, and Herbert Wilcox, Jr.
