Died at age 90. Highly diversified career devoted to clinical practice, graduate medical education and medical research with a special interest in public health. Served in World War I and also served in World War II, with research on blood transfusions and typhus. During World War I worked in Balkans on health problems and joined the Medical Reserve Corps of the Army with the rank of Captain on America's entry into the war. In 1927 devoted his efforts to clinical research and community health. Was a pioneer in early health insurance experiments and a founder of HIP, as well as an advocate of National Health Insurance for many decades.
