Surgeon, died in North Haven, Maine. Best known for his surgical treatment of cancer of the breast and infection of the hands, Dr. Auchincloss was a member of the board of consultants of the Presbyterian Hospital. He was appointed attending surgeon at Vanderbilt Clinic in 1911, and at the Medial Center in 1932, when he became professor of clinical surgery. During the influenza epidemic of 1917 he invented the Auchincloss tube used for draining the pleural cavity. He became Professor Emeritus of Clinical Medicine at the College of P&S in 1946.
A sculptured bust of Auchincloss was presented at ceremonies at Presbyterian Hospital by his brother, Charles C. Auchincloss in 1949.
