Spent his entire professional career at P&S, retiring in 1978 as Samuel Lambert Professor of medicine. Also had a private practice at Presbyterian Hospital and contributed to our understanding of thyroid disease and myasthenia gravis. Served as Acting Chairman of the Department of Medicine on two occasions, and was awarded the Distinguished Service Award of the college. Was president and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, a member of the Board of Directors of Helen Hayes Hospital and a director of the Executive Committee of Group Health, Inc. Dr Aranow was a leader in the program of ethics and values at P&S and Associate Editor of Man and Medicine: The Journal of Ethics and Values in Medicine. Son Robert is P&S 81 grad. Photo
