Retired in 1984 after practicing general medicine for 38 years in Mt. Gilead and Montgomery Counties in North Carolina. He was also former Chief of Staff at Montgomery Memorial Hospital. In addition, he was a charter Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and a member of the North Carolina State Medical Society. Served in World War II in the US Air Force. Lived in Mt. Gilead, where he was born and raised.
