History and Biography
The Society of the Alumni of the Presbyterian Hospital was established in 1892 “for the advancement of medical science and for the cultivation of social intercourse” among those who had completed an internship or residency at Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. Honorary members were regularly elected, but female residents do not appear to have been admitted, at least through the 1950s. The organization is now called New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia Society of the Alumni, reflecting the 1997 merger of Presbyterian with New York Hospital.

Most of the records deal with the operations of the Society especially the meetings (at first annual, later biannual), dues and other financial matters, and the election of new members. There is also correspondence relating to the Briddon Medal, established by Charles K. Briddon in 1902 as a prize for the best medical essay written by a member of the Society.
