Columbia University’s relationship with Presbyterian Hospital is the main subject documented in these records. During this period the hospital was planning a major modernization of its facilities including the construction of a new patient care building (Milstein Hospital Building, opened 1989) as well as a new community hospital (Allen Pavilion, now Allen Hospital) on Columbia’s Baker Field property in northern Manhattan. Included are records relating to Presbyterian’s lease of the Georgian Building on West 168th St. to Columbia to house the University’s School of Nursing; agreements relating to the renovation of the old hospital buildings; correspondence relating to the Baker Field property; and the original closing documents regulating the entire modernization project signed by the hospital and the university in July 1985.
There is also a considerable amount of records on the development of the Integrated Academic Information Management System (IAIMS), a multi-institutional project funded by the National Library of Medicine; and on Columbia’s efforts to develop and financially benefit from scientific and technological discoveries made by its faculty. Included are records of the Science & Technology Administrative Committee, the Science & Technology Policy Committee, and the University’s Science & Technology Development Office.
