Lists of students registered for courses given by the Columbia University Department of Physiology during the 1894/95-1905/06 academic years. Information usually includes course name, names of students (including the place, date, and name of their undergraduate degree), research topics, and a statistical summary. Both medical and graduate students enrolled in the department’s courses.

Historical/Biographical Note:

Physiology has been taught at Columbia University since the opening of the medical school in 1767 when it was known as “institutes of medicine.” In 1855, the medical school appointed John Call Dalton, Jr., as the first full-time professor of physiology in the United States.  During the period covered by this volume John Green Curtis was the professor of physiology.
